Community Context: Zulueta is a small country town in the Villa Clara Province, located about three and a half hours east of Havana. It is a very poor community, and like many rural areas in Cuba, the current nationwide shortages of food, electricity, gasoline, and medicine are especially acute there.

Current Need: Zulueta lacks reliable access to safe drinking water, which contributes to serious health problems for residents.

Project Goal: Our goal is to install a water purification system powered by a solar generator and to provide the church with practical training on system operation and sanitary water distribution.

Ministry Impact: The church will be able to provide purified, life-giving physical water while building relationships that open the door to share the true and life-giving Living Water.

Kitchen and Dining Hall for El Jordán Church in Havana

Children’s Ministry: On Saturdays, the church welcomes as many as one hundred children for Bible lessons, games, crafts, music, and other activities. Each gathering also includes a meal, which for many children is the most substantial meal they receive during the week.

Senior Adult Ministry: On Thursdays, the church welcomes as many as eighty senior adults for a Bible lesson, creative activities, free haircuts for both men and women, and a meal. For many attendees, this meal is also one of the most substantial meals they receive during the week.

Current Need: A generous gift from one of our WVBC churches makes the purchase of food possible for these meals, but the church still lacks an adequate kitchen and dining area to prepare and serve them. At present, they set up tables in hallways, use makeshift picnic tables, and cook in a makeshift outdoor kitchen.

Project Goal: Our goal is to fund the renovation and construction of a proper kitchen and dining hall that will serve both the church and the surrounding community.

Ministry Impact: This project will strengthen the church’s ability to meet both physical and spiritual needs, especially during this time of significant national hardship.
